The Barani Design BASIC IoT weather station is a pack of Barani's connected sensors for a complete weather station. This weather station is extremely robust, energy self-sufficient and complies with World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) standards. It is ideal for quality measurements in environments with no power supply and on sites with no internet or overly restrictive networks.

The Barani IoT weather station connects to a LoRa network, such as the Orange network in France and on Reunion Island (https://www.orange-business.com/fr/reseau-iot). We offer the weather station with an Orange LoRa subscription and data consultation and archiving on our MétéoData platform. The weather station can also be integrated into your own LoRa network - we supply the necessary keys.

The Barani weather station measures the following parameters

  • Temperature under cover
  • Relative humidity under shelter
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Wind speed
  • Wind direction
  • Rainfall accumulation
  • Solar radiation

The connected weather station consists of the following elements:

MeteoHelix® IoT PRO + MeteoRain®

The MeteoHelix station alone measures temperature and relative humidity under shelter, atmospheric pressure and global solar radiation. The MeteoRain® rain gauge is connected to the station for additional measurement of rainfall totals.

The patented spiral shelter meets the quality standards of the World Meteorological Organisation and the US National Weather Service (NWS). It has been independently tested by numerous laboratories around the world and, although passive, it performs at least as well as, and often better than, ventilated shelters. Its design keeps dust and dirt away from the probe installed inside and ensures perfect air circulation. The second inverted helix inside the shelter guarantees protection against infrared and light, even in the most reflective installations.

The rain gauge is fitted with a self-draining, self-balancing trough system, making it more resistant to poor installation. As a result, measurements are highly stable over time. It can be calibrated using two screws on the underside of the rain gauge. The rain gauge's plastic material is UV-resistant and hydrophobic, making it resistant to soiling. It is suitable for use in all kinds of environments: urban, agricultural, experimental fields, etc. The rain gauge is supplied with anti-bird spikes as standard.

The mounting system consists of a plate with four screws for installation either on a straight upright or on a mast using U-brackets (not supplied). Both the shelter and the rain gauge use the same fixing system.

Temperature, humidity, absolute atmospheric pressure and radiation are averages of values sampled every 10s during the archiving period (10 minutes). The sensor also provides minimum temperature, maximum temperature and maximum radiation. The number of tilts of the rain gauge's buckets is provided, enabling the cumulative total to be measured over the archiving period.

MeteoWind® IoT Pro

The MeteoWind® IoT Pro connected anemometer is robust, sensitive, fully autonomous and connected. It offers an ideal solution for any need to measure wind speed and wind direction conditions in locations with no internet connection or power supply. This wind vane anemometer is also extremely robust and requires no special maintenance over the years. The body and wind vane are made from corrosion-resistant anodised aluminium. The cups are made of fibre-reinforced plastic and are impact-resistant to -60°.

The MeteoWind® IoT Pro anemometer exceeds the most stringent MEASNET/MO/NWS precision measurement standards. The start-up threshold for the anemometer and wind vane is less than 0.2 m/s. The wind vane provides fast response and low rotational inertia. The accuracy of the wind speed measurement is exceptional, with an accuracy of ±0.05 m/s between 4 and 16 m/s, or with a maximum error of 2% of the measured value between 0.3 and 50 m/s. Wind direction is measured with an accuracy of ±2°.

The MeteoWind® IoT Pro anemometer is totally autonomous thanks to its very low power consumption (350 μA). It is powered by a solar panel and a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, with an autonomy of more than 4 months without sunlight.
